About the Event
The Center for a New American Security (CNAS), in cooperation with the US-ASEAN Business Council, hosted Pak Rosan Roeslani, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). The Honorable Dr. Kurt M. Campbell, CNAS Chairman of the Board and former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, introduced Pak Rosan and presided over the event.
As the world’s eighth largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity, Indonesia stands on the cusp of remarkable economic development. It is presently growing at between 5 and 6 percent and projected to become the world’s fourth largest economy by mid-century. Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was elected in 2014 largely on a platform of economic development, and his recent Cabinet reshuffle provides a further stimulus for progress and reform.
Pak Rosan, one of the major figures in Indonesian energy industry and now the voice of Indonesian business, described Indonesia’s potential, its vision for economic development, and the opportunities for Indonesia-U.S. relations. He was introduced by Dr. Campbell, a key architect of America’s enhanced strategic engagement with Asia, particularly Southeast Asia, and author of the recent book The Pivot: Future of American Statecraft in Asia.
