Little America: The War within the War for Afghanistan Book Launch

The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) hosted the book launch for Little America: The War within the War for Afghanistan by Rajiv Chandrasekaran, senior correspondent and associate editor at The Washington Post on Tuesday, June 26 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Chandrasekaran discussed the complex relationship between America and Afghanistan reaching back to the Cold War. Steve Coll, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former foreign correspondent and senior editor at The Washington Post, interviewed Chandrasekaran, followed by Q&A with the audience.

About the book:
When President Barack Obama ordered the surge of troops and aid to Afghanistan, Washington Post correspondent Chandrasekaran followed. He found the effort sabotaged not only by Afghan and Pakistani malfeasance but also by infighting and incompetence within the American government. About the Speakers

Rajiv Chandrasekaran is a senior correspondent and associate editor of The Washington Post , where he has worked since 1994. He has been the newspaper's bureau chief in Baghdad, Cairo and Southeast Asia, and has been covering Afghanistan off and on for a decade. His first book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City, won the Overseas Press Club book award.

Steve Coll is the president of the New America Foundation and a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine. Previously, he spent 20 years as a foreign correspondent and senior editor at The Washington Post, serving as the paper's managing editor from 1998 to 2004. He is the author of seven books, including most recently Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power, released in May 2012, and several professional awards, including two Pulitzer Prizes.
