Abbas Ravjani is an Attorney-Adviser at the U.S. Department of State.  He is currently assigned to the Office of International Claims and Investment Disputes within the Office of the Legal Adviser. 

Previously, Mr. Ravjani served as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he conducted legal and budgetary oversight of the intelligence community, worked to enact the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY10, the first since 2004, and organized congressional hearings on a number of sensitive national security matters.

Mr. Ravjani has also held positions with the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the Treasury Department, the Attorney General of Texas and as a law clerk for a federal judge in Dallas.  

Mr. Ravjani spent his pre-lawyer days as political-military analyst for the U.S. Navy, where he drafted reports and maritime assessments for policymakers and briefed troops deploying overseas, including while aboard the USS Nimitz.      

Mr. Ravjani received his J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. in Political Science and Middle East Studies from Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he was elected Student Body President and was a recipient of the nationally-awarded Harry S. Truman Scholarship for public service.
