Chris DeRusha

Chris DeRusha is a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst in the Office of the Federal Chief Information Officer, within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In this role, he oversees Federal Government cybersecurity programs and initiatives, and advises White House leadership on cybersecurity investment and policy decisions.

Prior to joining OMB, Chris worked at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2009-2015, serving most recently as Advisor to the Deputy Under Secretary for Cybersecurity. During his time at DHS, he spent several years as a Cybersecurity Strategist in the Office of Strategy and Policy, and served as Special Assistant and Trip Director to the Deputy Secretary.

From 2003-2008, Chris was an Associate with IHS International, a strategic advisory firm specializing in China. Chris spent much of this time living in Beijing, China, where he advised senior corporate executives in the telecommunications, energy, transportation, media, and entertainment industries in developing and implementing market-entry and investment plans. Chris also led a research team for a Department of Defense client, focused on strategic aspects of social and economic development in China.

Chris holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from James Madison University.
