Ellen McHugh

Director of Operations

Ellen McHugh is Director of Operations at the Center for a New American Security.  She is responsible for managing the administrative functions of the Center.  Her previous position was as Associate Director of the Center for Peace and Security Studies (CPASS) and Security Studies Program in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  Prior to joining CPASS, Ms. McHugh was an administrator in the Brookings Institution’s Foreign Policy Studies Program.  In that capacity she was instrumental in establishing the operation foundation for the then new Center for Middle East Policy. 

Ms. McHugh currently serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-B with the Alexandria Virginia Volunteer Fire Department. She is also a citizens' representative on the City of Alexandria's Emergency Medical Services Council.  A former Peace Corps Volunteer, Ms. McHugh earned her M.A. in National Security Studies from Georgetown University and her B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross.
