Joe Reeder’s career as an attorney is highlighted with four years of public service as the 14th Under Secretary of the Army, 1993-1997, where he was specifically responsible for long- range planning, material requirements, readiness, acquisition reform, infrastructure reduction and financial management of the Army.  He oversaw military support to local, state, and federal agencies related to civilian law enforcement, civil disturbance, disaster relief and emergency planning, and was the Army’s lead on the five-member DOD Base Realignment Closure (BRAC) Council.  Also while Army Under Secretary, Mr. Reeder served as the Army’s focal point for international affairs, with special focus on NATO, Panama and Latin America, and served as Chairman of the Panama Canal Commission Board of Directors, initiating and overseeing a massive, multi-billion dollar, pre-turnover infrastructure program.  In late 1997, Mr. Reeder returned to the private practice of law in October 1997, and has taken active leadership roles on numerous corporate boards and in international infrastructure projects, including the $6 billion Panama Canal expansion project as an International Advisory Board member.   

Mr. Reeder’s charitable contributions beyond corporate boards and the professional world include: Trustee, Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA); Board of Visitors, Virginia Military Institute (VMI); Member, American Law Institute (ALI); National Board of Directors for the Armed Services YMCA; National Board of Governors, USO; Board of Governors, Army Navy Country Club; West Point Chapter of Golden Key; Ethics Committee Chair & Board of Directors; National Defense Industry Association (NDIA), where he has chaired the Ethics Committee for 12 years; Board of Advisors for Our Military Kids; Co-Chair (with former Congressman Owen Pickett), Virginia Military Base Realignment Commission; Board of Directors, Marshall Legacy Institute; and Chairman, Peace Research Endowment.
