Livia Godaert is the Joseph S. Nye, Jr. Transatlantic Security Intern at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
Prior to joining CNAS, Ms. Godaert interned with the Millennium Leadership Program at the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC. In this role, she provided logistical and administrative support to program staff as they implemented next generation leadership initiatives in the United States and abroad.
As a student at Pacific Lutheran University, Ms. Godaert spent a semester in Freiburg, Germany, as a participant in a European Union intensive study program, where she met with Directors General, MEPs, and European diplomats to better understand EU institutions, member states, and the internal and external challenges the EU faces in the 21st century. As part of the program, she conducted research on Hungary's foreign policy priorities in early 2015 including Turkish accession to the EU and Russia's enhanced presence in Eastern Europe. For her senior capstone, Ms. Godaert examined Russian foreign policy toward the former Soviet republics, focusing on soft power media initiatives to maintain control of the Near Abroad.
Ms. Godaert graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She has limited working proficiency in both German and Spanish.
