Sameer Lalwani

Sameer Lalwani is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an affiliate of MIT’s Security
Studies Program. Currently he is a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at George Washington
University’s Institute of Security & Conflict Studies. His dissertation
research focuses on why states choose particular military strategies to combat
rebellion, primarily in South Asia. He has conducted field research in Pakistan
and India and archival research in the United Kingdom. His teaching experience
includes courses in comparative politics and security studies.
Mr. Lalwani’s broader research interests include U.S. grand strategy,
civil-conflict, ethnic politics, civil-military relations, and national
security decision-making. He has published articles in a number of outlets
including CTC Sentinel, Foreign Policy, the New York Times,
and the Los Angeles Times. Previously, he worked as policy analyst at
the New America Foundation and holds a B.A. in political science from University
of California, Berkeley.
