AT THE HEIGHT of its self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria, the so-called Islamic State was making millions of dollars every day from harvesting the output of seized oil and gas fields. But ISIS has now lost control of major resource-rich areas in Syria.

As part of our “Expert Views” series, Syria Deeply reached out to members of its expert community to understand how the recent capture of formerly ISIS-held territory could impact Syria’s oil and gas sector, and the various groups competing for control over this playing field.
