CNAS Experts’ Commentary on Executive Order “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States”
In recent days, the headlines have been dominated by the Trump Administration’s Executive Order on “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States,” which temporarily halts refugees, U.S. visa holders and, for a time, Legal Permanent Residents from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. Several experts from the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) have weighed in on the controversial issue.

Phillip Carter, Director of the CNAS Military, Veterans, and Society Program, wrote a second piece for Slate.com, “Hubris, Distrust, Disorder: Why the Trump Administration Keeps Screwing Up,” on how issues like the executive order are a product of deeper-seated problems in the Administration.
Michèle Flournoy, CNAS CEO, signed a letter along with over 100 retired military personnel and foreign policy experts from both parties, expressing concern with the executive order and arguing that it “jeopardizes tens of thousands of lives [and] has caused a crisis right here in America, and will do long-term damage to our national security.”
