By Neal Urwitz

Center for a New American Security (CNAS) congratulates former CNAS Robert M. Gates Senior Fellow Elbridge Colby on his appointment to serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development. In this role he will “assist in providing long-term anticipatory and strategic perspective on security issues and drives changes to policies, strategies, processes, and capabilities to advance the nations interest.”

“We are pleased that the administration has called on such a talented, innovative, and forward-thinking expert as Bridge,” said CNAS CEO Michèle Flournoy.

“He has been a real leader here, and we will miss him greatly. Yet his appointment exemplifies a core aspect of the CNAS mission: to prepare the next generation of national security leaders for public service. We congratulate him on his appointment.”

Colby joins a long line of former CNAS leaders who have entered key policymaking positions in the U.S. government, including in the administration and on the Hill.
