Taking Off: Civil Aviation, Forward Progress and Japan's Third Arrow Reforms

In a report released by the Center for a New American Security, Dr. Patrick Cronin urges the government of Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to target the nation's civil aviation industry for reform as a critical component of its efforts to improve the private investment climate in the nation.  Dr. Cronin, the Senior Director of the Asia-Pacific Security program at CNAS, notes that "Abenomics" - the Prime Minister's "bold plan to revitalize and reinvigorate the Japanese economy" - includes Three Arrows, the third of which is to "promote private investment-led growth by opening Japanese markets and encouraging a more flexible and competitive regulatory framework..."
